Doing the Velocity course, where I'm actually meeting with you, gives me accountability. It helps push me, helps me see other people doing the same thing, and that's really helped build my confidence in doing it.

With my W-2, my total bottom dollar was around $260 an hour. Locums, I'm making $350. Almost $100 an hour more. And I've cut my shift load from 16 to 18 a month down to 8 to 10.

This month I'm working the 1st through the 8th, then off for three weeks. The most time off I've taken in my whole career. That was my aha moment: there's no going back.

I've been so ready to quit medicine for a long time. Now they keep asking, when are you joining us full-time, can we hire you, Dr. Brown? And I get to say, I like the setup I have."

I went through the modules in about two days. It wasn't as hard as I was making it in my mind. I could do this. Even the calculator, showing the money left on the table between W-2 and 1099. I only have maybe 10 to 15 years of work left, and I could be putting that money toward retirement instead of leaving it on the table.

Now I have stuff scheduled into 2027, and I've decided I have to be firm on my rate. Any recruiter's opening number is just that, an opening offer, not a cap.

My hospital wouldn't even reimburse this as CME because it wasn't helping me in my job with them. Which was true, it was helping me get out. It's already returned that and more. I see so much burnout out there. I think this could really be the antidote."

The modules break everything down into simple steps, small enough to digest. I have ADHD, honestly. Can't pay attention for more than five minutes, and the modules are all under five minutes. It was very quick once I actually sat down.

Asking questions and actually talking to real people doing it is the most beneficial thing. It's easy to ask AI or Google something, but until you talk to an actual person doing it, it hits differently.

Honestly, my colleagues who are miserable, that's who I'd recommend this to. A lot of them are absolutely miserable, and I think if they had more control over their time and how much they made, they'd be so much happier. When I bring it up they say, well Mary, you're different. But I'm really not that different. This isn't some mountain you can't overcome."
